We are all concerned about the coronavirus outbreak. Infection control procedures are actions taken in healthcare settings to prevent the spread of disease. Our office has always and will continue to implement all infection control protocols recommended by federal and state agencies. Your safety and well-being is a priority at our office. Our sanitation protocols have been extended to include further disinfection in the waiting areas and restrooms, including but not limited to credit card terminals, knobs, countertops and use of disinfectant air sprays. Toys have been removed temporarily from children’s playing areas.
Our rigorous protocols of instrument sterilization, discarding of disposable items and disinfection of treatment areas are always in place.

Should you reschedule your dental appointment?

If you are healthy, there is no need to cancel your appointment. If you choose to reschedule your appointment, we totally understand and will help you with that.
With respect to the safety of our staff and patients, if you are ill or have flu-like symptoms, you should reschedule your appointment.
If you have come in close contact with someone tested positive for coronavirus, you should be quarantined for a minimum of 2 weeks to ensure no symptoms arise, and that you did not contract the virus. If you have recently traveled to one of the countries that experienced significant COVID19 outbreaks (including China, Iran, South Korea, Italy, and Spain), then you should be quarantined for a minimum of 2 weeks to ensure no symptoms arise, and that you did not contract the virus.
We understand that, at this time, the most at-risk population are the seriously ill elderly with underlying medical conditions. However, our safety precautions should include everyone.
It is obvious that updates regarding the outbreak and precautions to be taken as well as federal and state mandates change every day. We will continue to monitor the situation and release further updates as quickly as we can. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!

What Are Dental Implants?

If you are missing one or more teeth, you can replace them with dental implants. Dental implants consist of three parts: the base, the abutment, and the crown. The actual implant consists of a titanium post or screw that is placed in the jawbone to act as a tooth root. This screw bonds with your jawbone to create a sturdy base for your tooth, or crown.

The crown is placed on top of the implant and is connected with an abutment. The crown is custom-made for your mouth. It is shaped and colored to match your other teeth. The result is an implant that looks and functions like a natural tooth.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

The dental implant process requires two separate surgeries. The first surgery involves inserting the base into the jawbone. The dentist accomplishes this by drilling a hole in the jawbone and screwing the base into the bone. The gum then heals around the implant.

You will not yet have the tooth. The tooth will be created through impressions and models of your mouth. The dentist will send these images to the lab to create a custom-made tooth tailored to your smile.

A second surgery will be scheduled to place the tooth once the base of the implant has sufficiently healed. This procedure entails placing the connector, or abutment, on top of the implant. The replacement tooth, or crown, is then placed on top and attached to the connector with a small screw and dental cement. Finally, your dentist will ensure your new tooth matches the color of your natural teeth.

The healing process begins. The jawbone becomes extra sturdy as it grows around the implanted metal post. This secures the implant into the jaw. The healing process can take as long as 12 weeks. While pain is minimal, you may experience some soreness afterward. Over-the-counter pain medications can minimize discomfort.

You now have a healthy new smile! You can now eat, smile and speak normally. Take care of your implants like you would your natural teeth by brushing and flossing daily. See your dentist for regular checkups and you’ll have a gorgeous smile for life.

Who Benefits from Dental Implants?

If you are missing anywhere from one tooth to all of your teeth, you can benefit from dental implants. Once you have completed all your facial development – which typically occurs at ages 16-18 – you can have dental implants.

Dental implants offer both health and cosmetic benefits. If you are missing teeth, getting implants will keep your facial muscles from sagging. They also prevent jawbone deterioration.

Dental implants can improve self-confidence. You will no longer feel embarrassed about smiling or talking. Implants look, feel and function like regular teeth, so you can eat your favorite foods without fear.
